Kristaps Porzingis Injury Update: Not as Bad as It Looked
Celtics Big Man Provides Positive News
Porzingis Hopes to Return Soon
Boston Celtics big man Kristaps Porzingis provided an update on his status after he injured his eye in the Celtics' win over the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night.
Porzingis was poked in the eye by Pacers guard Duane Washington Jr. during a fight for a rebound in the second quarter. He immediately left the game and did not return.
After the game, the Celtics initially called Porzingis' injury calf tightness. However, an MRI on Sunday revealed that he had suffered a corneal abrasion.
"It's not as bad as it looked," Porzingis said. "I'm just glad it's not more serious."
Porzingis said he is hopeful to return to action soon, but he is not sure when that will be.
"I'm just taking it day by day," he said. "I'll see how I feel tomorrow and go from there."
Porzingis' injury is a blow to the Celtics, who are already without Jaylen Brown (ankle) and Robert Williams III (knee). However, the team is confident that they can overcome his absence.
"We're a deep team," said coach Ime Udoka. "We have a lot of guys who can step up and contribute."
The Celtics will host the Pacers in Game 5 on Tuesday night. If Porzingis is unable to play, Al Horford is expected to start in his place.
